Performance ZoneThe following performance results are correct as of 20th June 2011. How do we test this?At GB Labs we insist on performance testing our products with real video streams being pulled by real edit suites, simulating realistic load conditions. In the graphs above you will see the maximum number of streams for an industry standard video codec, which was tested by attaching multiple Edit Suites to specific Space models . We are not impressed by theory, many manufacturers quote ‘peak single file read performance’ because that is the most impressive number. They then divide that number by the amount of clients connected to the storage, which is misleading and inaccurate. Traditional hard disk storage is subject to an exponential drop in performance, as you create more simultaneous reads and writes. This limitation is very important to be aware of when buying central storage; the combined performance under load is what you really need to know. Notwithstanding we have also included peak performance figures in order for you to make ‘like for like’ comparisons. |
